Social network ads , also social media targeting , is a group of terms used to describe online advertising forms that focus on social networking services. One of the main benefits of this type of advertising is that advertisers can take advantage of user demographic information and target their ads appropriately.

Social media targeting combines the current targeting options (such as geo-targeting, behavioral targeting, socio-psychographic targeting, etc.), to make target group identification in detail. With social media targeting, ads are distributed to users based on information collected from the target group's profile.

Social network ads do not have to be the same as social media targeting. Social media targeting is a method of optimizing social media advertising by using profile data to send ads directly to individual users. Social media targeting refers to the process of matching social network users to target groups that have been determined by advertisers.

Apps

People who use social networks store various information about themselves, including their age, gender, interests, and location. This saved information allows advertisers to create specific target groups and individualize their ads. The advantage for advertisers is that their ads can reach people who are interested in the product or service. The advantage for users is that they can see the ads that interest them.

Facebook

Facebook, a very popular social network, has developed targeting technology that allows ads to reach specific audiences. This is in a Facebook product called Facebook Ads, which is available to users and businesses alike. When posting ads via the Facebook Ads Manager, advertisers are given a set of characteristics that will determine their target market. Facebook calls this audience targeting. These features include geographic location, gender, age, occupation, relationship status, and interests like music, among others. Facebook claims that advertisers can even adjust their target audience based on their behavior such as purchase patterns, device usage, and other activities. This is why Facebook users see ads on their profile pages that are relevant to their preferences and interests. This allows ads to be less intrusive and more successful in achieving their goals. The advertising algorithm is also capable of monitoring performance so that Facebook advertisers or marketers can modify their audience as well as the nature, budget, and duration of ads based on their performance.

Operation

In social communities, users provide demographic, interest, and image information. This information is accessed by social media targeting software and allows advertisers to create display ads with characteristics that match social network users. An important component of social media targeting is the provision of socio-demographic information and user interest. Using this information, social media targeting allows users to see ads that may be of interest to them. The availability of user data allows for detailed analysis and reporting, which is a big part of social media targeting and what makes it more effective than just statistical projection.

Demographics

About three quarters of Internet usage is a member of at least one social network. 49% of US adult women visit social media sites several times a day, while only 34% of men visit them. The fastest-growing age group on Twitter is 55 to 64 years, up 79% since 2012. And the 45-54 age group is the fastest growing on Facebook and Google. The use of social media is still more common among 89% of internet users aged 18-29 years, compared to 43% of those aged 65 years and over.

Advertising type

Popular social media sites, Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube, offer a variety of ways to advertise a brand. Facebook provides advertiser options like promoted posts, sponsored stories, post page ads, Facebook objects (like) ads, and external website advertisements (standards). To advertise on Twitter there are promoter tweets, trends, and promoted accounts that appear in the user's newsfeeds. To advertise on YouTube there are branded channels, promoted videos, video ads.

In July 2015, during their Q2 revenue call, Facebook revealed that they reached $ 2.9B in mobile revenue, which accounted for more than 76% of their overall quarterly revenues. Most of this revenue comes from app install ads, where the developer buys based on Cost per Install.

Another type of advertising uses a tool called a "buy button". Some networks have started to engage with "buy buttons," or become direct marketers for the various products that businesses want to promote on their social media platforms. Social networks like Facebook and Twitter are already involved with the partnership, and this is still the beginning of "Buy Button" is the gateway to impulsive online shopping. These ads appear on news feeds of the social media interface and also give you the option to click the button and buy the item right away. This account is just under 2% of online sales.
