Prince William County Public School is a division of the Virginian school with its headquarters at the Kelly Leadership Center in Prince William County, Virginia. At the 2010 census, the county population was 402,002.
Prince William County Public Schools is the second largest school division in Virginia that enrolls approximately 81,635 students in the 2011-2012 school year. Prince William County Public Schools is the fourth largest school system in the Metropolitan Area of ââWashington after Fairfax County, Virginia; Montgomery County, Maryland; and the school system of Prince George's County, Maryland.
Funding for fiscal year 2012 is $ 811 million.

Pennington and Porter Schools, selected schools and serving students in grades 1 to 8, provide Traditional Schools Serving Students at Elementary and Secondary Schools .

Prince William County provides "alternative" school services for what they consider to be "troubled teens". Students who are pregnant, selling or using drugs, writing graffiti, have general behavioral problems or are vulnerable to violence are usually sent to study together at the same facility, regardless of their primary school. The PACE program targets students with more extreme psychological cases.

The Prince William County Public School honors the school as a Superior School based on a variety of criteria, including: performance targets; Adequate Annual Progression under the Act No Child Disadvantaged; Virginia Health Tests; school attendance; and parents, students, and teacher satisfaction. The Virginia State Learning Standard (SOL) Test for students at the classroom level and students below the grade level is also considered. In 2006, these criteria were adjusted to reflect the continuous improvement of the school system.
School administration and staff are presented with warning flags, placards, and checks for use at the discretion of the school. Schools receive $ 1,000 for each year the appointment of School of Excellence is obtained.
