Histori
DuPage Airport lies in what used to be a sheep grazing land, but in 1927 two Chicago businessmen bought land and started barnstorming, using the field as a grass path. In 1941, the US Navy took over DuPage Airport, built a hangar-hangar brick, opened two runways in an "X" pattern and began training pilots for war effort. The airport was officially activated in March 1943. Hangar and the original runway configuration still exist, although one runway is closed and now taxiway C.
A year after the Navy began operations, Howard Aircraft Corporation opened a factory east of the airport across the street. The company built more than 500 trainers, air transport and air ambulance for the military, and Howard employees regularly look to push the plane across the road to a small airport to test their flying.
In 1946, with the war over, the Navy sold the airport to DuPage County for $ 1. The postwar boom saw much regional growth and the airport bouncing it by adding east/west bases and five-story control towers and making plans for further expansion.
In the late 1970s, DuPage Airport was designated as a relief airport for public aircraft, and in the early 1980s, airport authorities embarked on an expansion project to accommodate increased traffic.
However, planners learned a lesson from the fate of the beleaguered and confined Midway Airport. Surrounded by homes, restaurants, and other small businesses, Midway found itself unable to grow and neighbors filed a series of endless noise complaints. DuPage County will not make the same mistake.
The airport grew from 900 hectares (360 hectares) in 1985 to 2,800 hectares (1,100 hectares) in 1992, with the aim of maintaining control over all properties around the runway complex. Much of the land is obtained to provide a large buffer zone around the airport.
During the summer of 2012, the 2R/20L runway is extended by 1,343 feet with a total length of 6,443 feet.

Reception
The airport faced severe political criticism in the 1980s and 1990s. The 1995 magazine exhibition Chicago calls it "A Monument to Lavish Spending of Taxpayers' Money, the Haven of GOP Patronage, and the Target of the Federal Probe."
According to an article by John K. Wilson: Philip, DuPage airport patron, helped drive a very expensive company, including land purchase that made it four times larger than Midway Airport, the $ 10 million terminal, a $ 14 million golf course, and a chartered airline run by the airport. DuPage Airport's budget grew from $ 1.6 million in 1984 to $ 46 million in 1993 when airport usage declined. In 1992, DuPage Airport dealt only 177,000 runways and landings, while Aurora Municipal Airport took care of 134,000 runways and landings at a cost of only $ 2 million.
According to the May 2006 article at Aviation International News:
- Prior to 2003, the airport experienced a deteriorating trend in deteriorating annual operations. The trend was reversed in 2003 and the airport continues to show an increase in quarterly operating results since then. Last year the airport experienced a record-breaking year, with revenues up and shopping down. The cornerstone of airport finance is a mission statement developed by the Airport Board of Commissioners in 2003. It sets the framework for moving airports to operations as self-sustaining facilities while contributing to the economic impact of the area. Aggressive philosophy has produced two rents that will carry 60,000 sq ft (6,000 m 2 ) from the new hangar room to the airport. The airport also developed another 48,000 square feet (4,500 m 2 ) from the hangar room .
In June 2010, the DuPage National Technology Park board, a 800-acre (3.2 km km) technology park that guarantees a $ 34 million state grant calling for the dissolution of their organization.
