Taste is a Macintosh word processor that combines a number of basic features of the page layout software, just "flavor" from it, to build a unique solution for preparing documents. Taste was initially offered by DeltaPoint, the famous MindWrite publisher, but eventually separated to a third party before it disappeared. Taste works with Mac OS 9, but not macOS, and has not been available for purchase for several years. In many ways, the Apple app recently shared the basic "idea" of Taste, combining word processing with page layout.
Like a word processor, Taste allows users to start typing and continue to do so through to completion. It is not necessary, as in a typical page layout program, to create a grid to hold text, or manually add link pages or columns as the document increases. Like the page layout program, Taste also allows users to add these boxes if needed, as well as adjust the distance between characters (kerning) or between lines in a paragraph. Complex graphics can be created in this program.
Strangely Flavor also lacks a number of MindWrite features, though it seems to have been written by a completely different programming team. For example, Taste does not have a built-in outliner, MindWrite's "killer features" that make it a favorite for years. Nor Taste also does not have features like sorting or list creation.
Taste is generally considered very complex. As a result, it is sometimes said to be temperamental, and users who create complex documents and edit them in major ways have learned to save good backup files. Sometimes the document becomes corrupted and becomes difficult or impossible to recover data.
