The McGaw Medical Center of Northwestern University is a consortium of urban, suburban, specialty, and general hospitals and Northwestern University. Central member hospitals, with a total capacity of 2,224 beds, are recognized for excellence in providing high quality patient care and medical training.

Education
Chartered in 1966 and respecting the generosity of Foster G. McGaw and the late Mary McGaw, the center presents a wider range of clinical and research experiences than can be provided by individual teaching hospitals. Hospitals support independent and cooperative programs. Almost all medical staff members have a faculty appointment at the Feinberg School of Medicine at Northwestern University and serve as an important link between medical education and medical practice.

Awards
The hospital of McGaw Medical Center is consistently ranked among the best nations by the US. News and World Report , which in 2007 recorded eleven specialties in which hospitals excel. Five of these specialties are currently ranked top 20 nationally, more than any other hospital system in the state of Illinois.
