Help:Using talk pages Top # 7 Facts - YouTube

The talk page (also known as the discussion page ) is an administrative page where editors can discuss fixes of articles or other Wikipedia pages. When viewing an article (or other non-talk page), links to the appropriate talk page appear on the "Talk" tab at the top of the page. Click this tab to move to the talk page.

The talk page is related to an article called "Talk: Example", where "Example" is the name of the article. For example, the talk page for the Australian article refinement discussion is named Talk: Australia. The talk page associated with the page in another namespace is named by adding "talk" after the namespace label; for example, the talk page for Wikipedia: About called Wikipedia talk: About.

The user page also has a related talk page (for example, User talk: Jimbo Wales). When other editors need to contact you, they will usually do this by leaving a message on your talk page. When someone leaves you a message that way, you'll see an orange information notice the next time you log in or view a page on Wikipedia (if you're editing as an IP address) or a red badge next to your username (if you're signed in).

Where to find talk page

When viewing an article (or other non-talk page), links to the appropriate talk page appear on the "Talk" tab at the top of the page. (The mobile version has a button at the bottom for signed-in users, while the app may not have a link.) Click this tab to move to the talk page; You can then view the talk page and its history, and edit it if you want to add questions or comments.

If the "Talk" link is red, that means no talk page has started. Click the red link to start the talk page for the article and follow the instructions in Starting new thread below. (It is also possible for the talk page to be present when the corresponding non-talk page is a red link; this often happens in the Users room, when the user has received a talk page message but has not yet started the user page.)

To return to the article page of the talk page, use the leftmost tab at the top of the page, labeled "articles". For pages other than articles, this tab might say something different, like "user page" or "project page".

Identify yourself

When you post messages on the talk page, you should always sign and date your comment so that other editors can follow the conversation flow. To do this easily, type four tilde (~~~~) at the end of your comment, or just click the signature button on the row of buttons above the edit box. After you Publish change edits, this will automatically be converted into a user's signature with a link to your user page, your user's talk page, and the date and time you saved your edits. (You can change the shape of your signature using your user preferences.)

If you choose to contribute without signing in, regardless of whether you have an account, you still need to sign your post. In this case your IP address will replace your username, and will link to your contribution history.

Starting new thread

To discuss topics that have not been discussed in user articles or pages, start a new topic.

  • Click on the "New section" link at the top of the talk page screen.
  • Be sure to include section headers in the "Subject/title" box with the appropriate title, preferably not something as common as "Question" or "Problem".
  • Sign in. At the end of your post, type four tilde (~~~~), which will automatically add your username and date.
  • Click "Publish changes"

The new section can also be started by editing an entire page or existing section, going to a new line and typing == Heading == , replacing "Heading" with the appropriate title, but be sure to add a new discussion in the section below page. The new section automatically adds a heading to the "Fill" box on the page with at least four sections.

Reply to an existing thread

To respond to an existing discussion:

  • Click the "Edit" link at the far right of the section you want to reply to.
  • Add your comment below the last entry in the discussion. If you want to respond to a particular comment, you can place your response directly below it. Use the colon (:) to enter your message to create a threaded message. See Indent below for more information about identifying a page with a colon.
  • Sign in. Type in four tilde (~~~~), which will automatically add your username and date.
  • Click "Publish changes"

Indents

Indentation is used to keep the talk page readable. The comment is indicated using one or more colon (:), each colon represents an indentation level. Each comment should be indented one level more than the reply commented, which may or may not be a previous comment. As an example:

Some pages (discussion deletes, for example) use an asterisk instead of a colon for indenting. Generally colons and asterisks should not be mixed; if you see an asterisk being used in a page, use it too.

Avoid placing a double line break (ie empty line) as shown in the above example between the lines of the text being indexed, as this may cause problems for screen reader software users (see Wikipedia: Manual Style/Accessibility Ã,§ Curve).

Notifications

Notify other users

You can notify other editors in the discussion by linking to their user pages in your posts. To do this easily you can use the template {{Reply to | User Name}} , which displays @Name Users: For example, to reply and notify Editor 1, you must use the following code:

You have new messages

You will be notified when someone else edits your user talk page or notifies you of the template {{Reply to}}. Since April 30, 2013, registered users have received this notice through the Wikipedia Notification system: (see right image); unregistered users still receive notifications with the old-style Orange Bar. Registered users who wish to re-add the Orange Bar notification function can do so through this script.

For users who do not edit with the account (unregistered users), the below sign is automatically displayed on all pages until you see your user's talk page. If you click on "new messages" it will take you to the bottom of your talk page. If you click on "recent changes", this will show you the most recent edits made on your talk page.

Advanced

Subpages and filing

Sometimes a particular topic generates a disproportionate amount of traffic on the talk page. It may be decided to remove the discussion of the topic into the subpage of the talk page. To do this, create a page titled "Talk: Xxx/Yyy", where "Talk: Xxx" is the name of the main talk page, and "Yyy" shows the subpage topic. Leave a note at the top of the main talk page linking to any subpage.

On a discussion page that generates a significant amount of discussion, long discussions are often archived to keep the page size of the conversation at manageable levels. This can be done manually or with the help of a bot. An archive box with links to the discussion archive is usually placed at the top of the current talk page.

Quote

Sometimes it is necessary to display a sentence or paragraph from an article on the talk page so that other editors can easily understand what is being discussed. An easy way to do this is to use the {{Quote frame}} or {{Quote}} framework:

Gunakan {{Quote frame | Quoted passage dari artikel.}} untuk menghasilkan:

Alternatively, use {{Frame frame | Quoted text | Author | Source}} to generate:

The {{Quote}} template generates an indented quote without boxes; use {{Quotes | Quoted text | '' Source ''}} to generate:

The quoted text

Alternatively, use {{Query | Quoted text | Author | '' Source '', page XX}} to add author and page number:

The quoted text

To directly quote another user, the {{Talkquote}} template places quoted text in the green box, as in: {{Talkquote | Quoted text | Example | ts = 12: 00, 01 January 2000 (UTC)}} , resulting in:

Cited Text
- Users: Example 12:00, 01 January 2000 (UTC)
