Go.com (also known as Go Network ) is a landing page for Disney content, created as a joint venture between Infoseek and Disney Interactive. Currently operated by Disney Consumer Products and Interactive Media, a division of The Walt Disney Company. It started out as a web portal launched by Jeff Gold. Go.com includes content from ABC News that is associated with Disney and is hosted with the name.go.com. Along with Time Warner's Pathfinder.com, Go.com proved to be a costly failure for its parent company, as web users prefer to use search engines to access content directly, rather than starting on top-level corporate portals. In 2013, the site is redirected from the portal to a simple landing page.

History

In January 1998, Disney registered go.com. Infoseek and Disney Interactive Media Group work together in developing Go Network, an internet portal. Go.com was launched in January 1999 as a portal with content from ABCNews.com, ESPN.com, and Disney.

With the purchase of Disney from the rest of Infoseek in July 1999, Go Network, Infoseek, Disney Catalog, Disney Online (Disney.com and DisneyStore.com), ABC News Internet Ventures, ESPN Internet Ventures, and Buena Vista Internet Group merged into Go.com ; the company is 72% owned by Disney, with another extraordinary hold in a tracking.

In October 1999, the Go Guides program, a user-edited directory like DMOZ, was launched.

In January 2000, Go.com was forced to abandon its original traffic lights logo because of a similar-looking logo complaint filed by Goto.com. At the same time, Go.com company officials announced that they were switching from a general appeal portal to display entertainment content. The court then ruled that Go.com should pay $ 21.5 million in damages to Goto.com.

However, in January 2001, Disney announced that it would close Go.com and its search engine, lay off about 400 employees and stop go.com tracking inventory. Also announced the closure of the Go.com volunteer directory. By closing, some volunteers were created, or migrated to, directory branches including JoeAnt, Goguides.org, and Skaffe.com.

In March 2001, Go.com dropped its internal search engine to get search results.

Current status

Despite the announcement, go.com never stops operating. Instead, in March 2001, the site ended its search engine and switched to search engine provided by goto.com, whose parent, Inktomi, was eventually bought by Yahoo !.

Starting January 21, 2016, several Disney sites, including the ABC network and the Disney news and cable network, continue to be hosted on the go.com domain, even though the base address is used for branding and simplicity purposes; for example, the website for the Freeform redirection to freeform.go.com. Go.com terminated its email service on August 31, 2010.

In 2013, Disney unleashes the Go.com logo and brand, turning the domain into a Disney-branded landing page without a search engine. The Disney Interactive property then begins the process of moving user account connections from depending on the Go.com domain to different system types depending not only on one domain. Throughout 2014 and 2015, ABC Television Stations began to move only using their air domains, especially for social media considerations.

In August 2016, ESPN.com switched to using only that domain instead of espn.go.com, which tied the Disney Company Technology user account/registration process better than the rumored issue involving a "301" error notification resolution from the previous one. espn.com redirect causes issues with lower search result rankings.
