History

Launched in 1997 as The Back Page , the event was originally hosted by journalist Mike Gibson and comedian Billy Birmingham. In 2012, Gibson announced that he would be leaving the show after 16 years and 720 episodes. Soon after, Birmingham announced that he would not return to the show the following year after being told he had been downgraded to a part-time panelist. In 2013, presenter Tony Squires and athlete Matt Shirvington take on the role of the host. Shirvington left the show in the same year, and was replaced by journalist Kelli Underwood.

Starting October 7, 2017, the event moved from its traditional Tuesday night time slot for live broadcast at 7:00 pm Saturday night on the One-to-air channel, which is classified as the "Summer Series" event. Repetitions are then shown on Fox Sports throughout the following week. The episode is shortened from 1 hour to 45 minutes of running time, and the title is changed to Back Pages as previously mentioned when first launched. However, the run was short-lived, ending on November 25, 2017 after just eight episodes. The show returns to its traditional Tuesday night slot on Fox Sports on February 27, 2018.
