Quicken is a personal financial management tool developed by Quicken Inc. (formerly part of Intuit, Inc.). On March 3, 2016, Intuit announced plans to sell Quicken to H.I.G. Capital; the terms of the sale are not disclosed.
Different (and incompatible) Quicken versions run on Windows and Macintosh systems. Previous versions run on DOS and Apple II. There are several versions of Quicken for Windows, including Quicken Starter, Quicken Deluxe, Quicken Rental Property Manager, Quicken Premier, and Quicken Home & amp; Business, as well as Quicken for Mac. Since 2008, each version is likely to have a release year in the product name (for example, Quicken Basic 2008); before that, the version is numbered (eg, Quicken 8 for DOS).
Quicken's main market is North America, and most of the software is sold exclusively to the US and Canadian markets as well as the user base. But core functions can often be used more widely, regardless of state; and the version has been customized for various markets, including Australia, Germany, Hong Kong, India, New Zealand, the Philippines and Singapore. The development of a special version of Quicken in the UK was discontinued in January 2005, with sales and ending support shortly thereafter. There are also versions for Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Denmark, Ecuador, France, Mexico, Netherlands, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Uruguay, and Venezuela.

Quicken names usually refer to the core product offerings of personal financial management software. The software includes financial planning activities that, historically, people might have done on paper-records banking transactions, planned budgets and measured progress against them, tracked their investments and prices and performance. Quicken has been offering various editions, at varying prices - like Basic which includes only typical activities for someone with a simple banking account, for Small Business for someone who also runs a business outside their home.
Quicken includes an online service that allows users to retrieve transactions from various providers - such as their bank or credit card company. In many cases, online services and technical support are now supported up to three years after the product label version. for example Quicken 2018 will be supported until 2021.

The Quicken brand has been extended to other private and household areas, including health care. Quicken Health Expense Tracker is a free online tool for healthcare consumers enrolled in participating health plans. Users can "manage and direct their health care finances, view and manage medical expenses, payments and service history, and download and manage personal health claim data." Quicken Medical Expense Manager is a desktop software for managing health documents, tracking claims and payments, and incorporating related information.
Quicken Kids & amp; Money is a Web-based program that aims to help parents teach five- to eight-year-olds how to earn, spend, store, and share money. Is dead.
Other products are aimed at home-based businesses and seem to fit the space for less formal businesses than using QuickBooks. Quicken Rental Property Manager is a desktop software for managing rental properties; track tenants, expenses, and payments; and generate tax reports.
Software as a service
Quicken Online is a free hosted solution (see software as a service) by Intuit. Intuit hosts all user data, and provides patches and regularly updates the software automatically. It was originally launched as a monthly subscription, and is a free service for over a year. During that free year, it acquired more than 1.5 million subscribers.
Intuit completed the acquisition of Mint.com competitors on November 2, 2009. Quicken Online was discontinued on August 29, 2010, and users were encouraged to switch to Mint.com.
Starting with Quicken 2018, Quicken is now a subscription service. Annual membership can be purchased directly from Quicken.com and a two-year subscription can be purchased through multiple retailers.

Criticism
Intuit stopped supporting Quicken software in the UK in 2005, leaving thousands of users with only partially functional software.
In 2008 and 2009, Quicken users reported a large number of software bugs for commercial products. The Quicken 2010 review shows that the quality and user interface of the product year has increased dramatically.
Existing Quicken Online user data can not be transferred/imported to Mint.com. This is very different from VP Aaron Patzer's appointment, made on April 27, 2010: "[Until merger with Mint.com is done], you can continue to use Quicken Online as you own.After we have completed all the features for Mint, you will can easily transfer your information and data to ensure a smooth transition possible. "
Quicken History and no common cross-platform file format
Quicken uses the database file structure. Since Quicken started in MS-DOS and Apple II in 1983 (before the Macintosh emerged in 1984), the preferred database structure does not exist for the Macintosh, nor is a well-developed general database structure that is cross-platform compatible in the early days. So, when Mac development starts, it should take an independent path, and the DOS version is redirected to Windows.
Then when Mac OS X came out in 1999 (server) and 2001 (desktop), a new platform emerged. Apple developed backward compatibility for OS 9 (and its predecessors), so the development of Quicken for Mac continues in a longer platform database structure (PowerPC based). Apple continues to support PowerPC-based applications (via Rosetta) on their Intel-based Macs in August 2009 (via Mac OS X 10.6). Rosetta is a temporary measure to support the transition to exclusive Intel-based software (achieved in March 2011 with the release of OS X 10.7 (Lion)).
In 2009, faced with PowerPC retirement, the Quicken for Mac (2007) structure was not suited for Mac (intel) and OS X. Although they got Quicken for Mac 2007 to run it. on Intel in 2012, Intuit decided to start from scratch and Quicken Essentials for Mac (QEM) was made in 2010. Quicken 2015 for Mac, released in August 2014, and a newer version for Mac built on the foundation of Quicken Essentials for Mac.
