Mian Amer Mahmood (born July 25, 1960 Lahore) is a Pakistani businessman and educator. He is the mayor of Lahore from 2001 to 2009.

Early life and career
Mahmood was born into the Arain family. After finishing his MBA (cs) from Punjab University, he chose to enter the education sector of Pakistan and launched the Punjab Group of Colleges (PGC) in 1985. Then he founded Punjab Law College in 1987 and Punjab Business Administration College in 1989. At in 1993, he founded the Punjab Institute of Computer Science, followed by Muhammad Ali Jinnah University in 1998. In 2002, 2003 and 2010 he launched the University of Central Punjab, School of Resource Academy System, and Allied Schools respectively.
Media group
In December 2008, Amer Mahmood launched a new television network Dunya News. The channel raises a lot of criticism in 2012 when Malik Riaz, Meher Bukhari and Mubasher Lucman discuss in a talk show. Then in September 2012 he also launched the Urdu daily newspaper, Roznama Dunya, which was published from eight different cities in Pakistan.
Political career
Mahmood was first elected as a member of the City council in 1987. He was re-elected in 1991 and won the election of local bodies. Then in 2001, he was elected Mayor of Lahore after winning a majority vote. He was re-elected for another four-year term, which he completed in 2009.
During his tenure, he signed a fraternal agreement with four cities covering Isfahan in 2004 and Mashhad in 2006, the two cities of Iran. In 2005 Amer Mahmood stated that he was in an attempt to declare Glasgow as a twin city of Lahore, then on May 6, 2006 the mayor reported that the Glasgow City Council would announce Lahore as a twin city soon. On 14 September 2006 he has signed a twin city note with Lord Provost Liz Cameron in Glasgow at a meeting in Glasgow. Then in February 2007 Lahore Mayor Amer Mahmood also signed a twin city memorandum with the mayor of the city of Chicago Richard M. Daley and declared them both as twin cities. During the reign of the Glasgow city of Mahmood, Lahore provided training facilities and fire trucks in 2008.
